'Never seen anything like it before': Adrian College students excited for Lions' Super Bowl run

From an official superfan, to others lifelong, students at Adrian College spoke with WTOL 11 about their excitement for Sunday's NFC Championship.

ADRIAN, Mich. — The NFC Championship game on Sunday featuring the Lions has been a long time coming for many fans.

For the 49ers, their opponent, this is their third straight appearance in the game and fourth in the last five years. While for the Lions, this is the first time since 1991.

For most, if not all, students at Adrian College, this is the closest the Lions have been to the Super Bowl in their lifetimes.

"Never seen anything like it before, especially in Detroit," said Adrian student Waides Ashmon. "The atmosphere is something like completely different, especially when you go downtown. It's really amazing."

One of the fans in Adrian, Anthony Writer, is quite literally a superfan of the Lions.

Back in 2020, the Lions named him as their official superfan, and during the 2021 NFL Draft, Writer got the chance to announce a draft pick.

The pick? Current superstar wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.

"I went to the first draft that Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell were a part of so I've been kind of part of the process the entire way," Writer said. "It's just been really cool to see them build and grow the entire time. It just feels really kind of fulfilling as a fan who has followed them really closely."

For Writer and the rest of the fans in Adrian and all over Detroit, they hope to see their team reach the Super Bowl for the first time ever.
