BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — It may be June but football season will be here before we know it, and a pair of Bowling Green women are already getting the community prepared.
Bowling Green State University head football coach Scot Loeffler and athletic director Derek van der Merwe's wives, Amie Loeffler and Stephanie Paris, are co-founders of the Bowling Green Women's Clinic. The second annual event will take place next week.
"We didn’t know really how it was going to be received (last year) and it was received really well," Paris said. "So we were very excited about the participation."
Last year's clinic drew in 100 women who got to tour the facilities, participate in fun football drills led by the Falcon players and have a firsthand look at what a day in the life looks like for the players.
But most importantly, fundraise to help feed their student-athletes.
"They require seven meals and snacks each day to keep them at their peak performance. So that's a great opportunity for community members to come out and support them in that mission," Loeffler said. "But also just for girls to come out and have a fun girl's night out with BG football."
Loeffler and Paris added that prior football experience is not necessary and that people should take advantage of the opportunity to get to know the players and staff, as well as connect with other women in the community.
"I think it's important for people to know that you don't have to be a football guru. It can be any age," Paris said. "We had people from 18 to 80 last year and all different levels of athleticism. It's really just about coming out and having fun. A great girl's night, a great time to network, a great time for fellowship, friendship or meet some new people."
The clinic is on Thursday, June 20 at Doyt Perry Stadium. Registration starts at 5:30 p.m. followed by the clinic from 6 to 8 p.m.
