ROCK HILL, S.C. — A Grand Rapids native is the 2024 Collegiate Disc Golf Singles National Champion.
Benjamin Zorn took home the trophy while representing Ferris State University (FSU) in Rock Hill, SC on Saturday.
Zorn shot a three-under-par in the final round of the tournament to earn the title after shooting par in the first round.
“It was probably the most nervous I’ve ever been in my life. I was feeling a ton of pressure,” Zorn said. “I wanted to stay focused on doing the best I could for my team, Ferris and myself."
Ferris State professor emeritus and former associate provost Leonard Johnson serves as the advisor for the Disc Golf team and couldn't be prouder of Zorn.
“When Benji joined the team last year as a freshman, he made an immediate impact. He is one of those incredibly gifted athletes who comes along once in a blue moon,” said Johnson. “His leadership guiding weekly team practices has been instrumental in helping to develop and hone the skills of players on both our men’s and women’s teams.”
FSU's Disc Golf Men’s Team placed fourth overall in the tournament.
The Disc Golf Men’s Team won national titles in 2015, 2017 and 2019. The FSU Disc Golf Women’s Team won their only first national title in 2021.
