TOLEDO, Ohio — The Mid-American Conference postseason awards for women's basketball were announced on Tuesday and the University of Toledo took home the top two awards.
Rockets fifth-year guard Sophia Wiard was named the MAC player of the year and head coach Tricia Cullop earned coach of the year honors.
Wiard becomes the seventh UT player in program history to be named MAC player of the year. Current Rockets fifth-year guard Quinesha Lockett was named player of the year last season.
It is the sixth time Cullop has earned coach of the year honors and the third consecutive time she has won the award. She is tied with former Bowling Green head coach Curt Miller for the most by any MAC women's basketball coach.
Wiard and Lockett were also named to the All-MAC first team. It is the third time both players have been named to All-MAC teams in their careers.
Toledo senior forward Sammi Mikonowicz, a Rossford High School graduate, was named to the All-MAC third team.
For Bowling Green State University, junior guard Amy Velasco and fifth-year guard Morgan Sharps earned All-MAC second team honors. Senior forward Erika Porter was named to the All-MAC third team.
