Perrysburg girls run away with DI state cross country championship

Multiple teams and individual runners from northwest Ohio finished in the top 10 at the meet.

PERRYSBURG, Ohio — A big crowd of people showed up at Perrysburg High School on Saturday night to welcome back the Perrysburg High School girls cross country team.

The Yellow Jackets came away with the state championship in the Division I race at the OHSAA state championship meet in Obetz, Ohio earlier in the day.

Two of the Jackets runners finished in the top 10 of finishers in the race. All of the team’s top 5 finishers, whose scores are added together for the team total, finished with times under 19:30.

They are:

  • Hannah Kersten – 8th 18:19.37
  • Ava Beeks – 10th 18:22.14
  • Natalie Sanders – 22nd  18:39.05
  • Anna Dalton – 63rd 19:28.42
  • Kaelyn Becken – 65th 19:29.46

Aubrey Evans and Taylor Moody rounded out the team.

In the Division I boys race, the St. Francis de Sales team finished in 7th place out of 20 teams.

The Knights bested their performance from last year when the team finished in 9th place.

Connor Long from Anthony Wayne finished in eighth place in the boys race with a time of 15:25.85.

Division II

In the Division II girls race, Ottawa-Glandorf finished in 5th place.

Port Clinton’s Morgan Wiechman finished in 9th place among all runners with a time of 18:48.83.

Ty Rosengarten, from Ottaw-Glandorf, finished in 9th place with a time of 15:54.08 in the Division II boys race.

Division III

Ottawa Hills had two runners in the Division III race finish in the top 10 – Riley Nixon finished in 5th (15:52.87) and Joe Mayer-Heckathorn finished in 8th (15:55.02). The team finished in 12th place.

The Columbus Grove boys team won the state championship in the Division III race.
