St. John's Jesuit head football coach steps down

Larry McDaniel was the head coach of the Titans football program for eight seasons.

TOLEDO, Ohio — St. John's Jesuit head football coach Larry McDaniel has stepped down, the school announced Tuesday.

McDaniel was named head coach in 2017 and spent eight seasons at the helm for the Titans.

St. John's finished the 2024 season 1-9 and missed the playoffs. Their lone win on the season came in week 10 against the University of Detroit Jesuit High School.

“I am extremely grateful for the opportunity at St. John’s Jesuit. I have taken great pride in furthering the school’s mission. This has been a place where I have made incredible friendships among coaches, faculty, and staff," McDaniel said in a press release from the school.

“We are grateful for Larry’s hard work and dedication to the Titan football program and our student athletes. He has been a tremendous role model not only for our football players, but for all students at SJJ. He has been instrumental in our transition to the Catholic High School League. Larry embodies what it means to be a Man for Others, and we wish him the best as he moves on to his next chapter," athletic director Bob Ronai said.
