TOLEDO, Ohio — A pair of Toledo Rockets are driving new cars. Women's basketball players Quinesha Lockett and Sophia Wiard received new Toyota SUVs Thursday as part of an NIL deal with Jim White Toyota.
"I'm at a loss for words right now, I'm so excited," Lockett, the reigning MAC Player of the Year, said. "And this is my first car so, let's go!"
The cars are 2024 Toyota RAV4, customized to include Lockett's and Wiard's names and numbers.
"I had no idea," Wiard said. "I was kind of just shocked. I didn't even know how to react."
The two will have the cars as part of a lease deal through the end of their college careers, with the option to purchase the vehicles afterward.
"Since NIL came out, we've been working on this for a couple of years," Jim White Toyota General Manager Vinnie Schiavone said. "When we wanted to do something, we wanted to make sure we did it big."
The Rockets are back on the court Saturday when they take on Hillsdale College.
