CLEVELAND — Last week, the Cleveland Guardians, who were already crowned American League Central champions, secured a first-round bye in the 2024 MLB Postseason after defeating the Cincinnati Reds 6-1.
The regular season is now over, with the Guards final 92-69 record giving them the second-best record in the AL and the No. 2 seed in the AL playoffs. As a result of clinching the first-round bye, Cleveland received five days off between the end of the regular season and the start of the ALDS.
The Guardians' opponent is their division rivals: the sixth-seeded Detroit Tigers. The Motor City Kitties took down the 3-seed Houston Astros by sweeping their best-of-three AL Wild Card Series, continuing an improbably run that saw them go 30-17 just to clinch the league's final playoff spot.
The Guards played their first postseason game at Progressive Field on Oct. 5 in the division series against the Tigers. If Cleveland continues to advance, the American League Championship Series will start on Oct. 14, and the World Series will begin on Oct. 25.
Here's a breakdown of the schedule for the best-of-five AL Division Series:
Saturday, Oct. 5: ALDS Game 1 - Guardians win 7-0
Monday, Oct. 7: ALDS Game 2 - Tigers win 3-0
Wednesday, Oct. 9: ALDS Game 3 - Tigers win 3-0
