TOLEDO, Ohio — Week one of college football is officially in the books for Toledo and Bowling Green as both look to capitalize on wins entering into week two.

The Rockets beat Duquesne 49-10 on Thursday to start the season 1-0. Quarterback Tucker Gleason was 15-24 passing for 202 yards and three touchdowns. As a team, Toledo rushed for 167 yards and three touchdowns combined between Jacquez Stuart (2) and Willie Shaw III (1).

Next up for the Rockets is UMass at home on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 3:30 p.m., a school that will officially join the Mid-American Conference beginning in 2025.

"This team kicked our tail for 30 minutes last year, if I'm remembering correctly. We know what the challenges are ahead," Toledo head coach Jason Candle said. "We know this is a team that creates a lot of problems from the complications they try to create on defense and will stress you offensively too. We have to be at our best, we have to be ready to play and we have to have the mistakes corrected that we've put on tape and put the best plan forward for Saturday, and ultimately go execute that plan."

As for the Falcons, they won their season opener for the first time since 2019, beating Fordham 41-17. They began the game with a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Justin Pegues. BGSU was then led on the ground by Sandusky High School graduate Terion Stewart with 161 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

Bowling Green hits the road for week two to Happy Valley to take on Penn State of the Big Ten for a noon kickoff on Saturday, Sept. 7.

"We don't approach these big games any different than what we would a MAC game," Bowling Green head coach Scot Loeffler said. "We need to focus this week completely on improving and moving the needle of our program, and then go into Happy Valley and give it our best effort and protect the ball, hopefully create a couple of turnovers, get a special teams play that we're not supposed to get and see what happens."
