CLEVELAND — Sunday was a day to remember at Cleveland Browns Stadium, not just because of the 13-10 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, but because it also marked the return of a franchise legend.
For the first time since Week 1, "Voice of the Browns" and 3News sports anchor Jim Donovan was back in the radio booth to call the action. Donovan, who has been battling a relapse of leukemia, returned following a 10-week leave of absence to undergo further treatment.
It was Jimmy himself who kicked things off as the honorary "Dawg Pound Captain" for the day, performing the ceremonial smashing of a Steelers guitar as the crowd roared with approval. After rejoining his partner Nathan Zegura up in the box, he added to his already sterling resume by calling another classic, capped off by Dustin Hopkins' 34-yard field goal with just seconds remaining.
But the highlight of the day came after the final whistle, when head coach Kevin Stefanski invited Jimmy into the locker room. It was there where Stefanski awarded the game ball to a greatly touched Donovan, a fitting honor for one of the indelible figures in team history.
The Browns now have their "voice" back, and we'll be more than grateful to have Jimmy back at WKYC Studios starting Monday. Oh, by the way: The Browns are also 7-3 and in the thick of a playoff race, and we can't wait to hear Jimmy call all of the big moments down the stretch.
In the meantime, listen to his top calls from Sunday below:
