DETROIT — The Detroit Lions are in unprecedented territory, standing one win away from advancing to their first-ever Super Bowl.
But the Lions had played for the NFL championship before it was called the Super Bowl. The last time? 1957. Detroit has not returned to the championship game since then.
A win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday would end one of the longest current championship droughts in professional sports.
