Ohio natives to look out for in 2024 Paris Summer Olympics

According to Team USA, more than a dozen athletes from the Buckeye State will be sporting their red, white and blue in Paris.

OHIO, USA — The 2024 Summer Olympics are almost here and there are plenty of Ohio natives to keep an eye on in Paris.

According to Team USA, there are 17 athletes who qualified from the Buckeye State who will be sporting their red, white and blue. In a study done by LiveSportsOnTV, a website that provides schedules for streaming and TV sports, Ohio comes in 21st place in the country for the highest proportion of Olympians at the Paris games based on population size.

According to Team USA, the state with the most athletes is California with 138, followed by Florida with 46. For a full state-by-state breakdown, click here.

The Olympics will take place from Friday, July 26 through Sunday, Aug. 11. The Paralympics run Wednesday, Aug. 28 through Sunday, Sept. 8 in 22 sports.

Ohio natives set to compete in the 2024 Summer Olympics:

Trevor Bassitt - Bluffton

The 26-year-old is set to compete in track and field as a member of Team USA. Bassitt will be competing in the 400-meter hurdles. He is also an Ashland University graduate.

Bassitt won gold at the 2022 and 2023 World Championships in the 4x400-meter relay.

Bassitt begins competing Monday, Aug. 5 in round one at 4:05 a.m. ET./10:05 a.m. Paris.

Kelly Elmlinger - Attica

The current Texas resident will be competing in the Paratriathlon. 

While in college, Kelly enlisted as an Army medic and served 10 years with the 82nd Airborne Division's Combat Aviation Unit. She served three back-to-back deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq.

She most recently was a Paralympian in the 2020 Tokyo Games.

Simone Biles - Columbus

The 27-year-old is the most decorated gymnast in history, having won four gold medals, one silver and two bronze.

At the Rio Olympics Games in 2016, Biles earned the four gold medals in the floor exercise, vault, all-around and team segments.

Biles begins competition in Paris on Sunday, July 28 with team qualifying. Team USA is slated to start at 5:40 a.m. as part of the second group competing that day.

Biles was born in Columbus and now resides in Texas.

Hunter Armstrong - Dover

The 23-year-old swimmer will be competing in the 4x100 free relay squad.

This will be Armstrong's second Olympics after winning gold in Tokyo in 2020 as part of the 4x100 medley relay team.

Byron Branch - Bellbrook

Branch will be competing in wheelchair fencing.

According to USA Fencing, the 39-year-old was a former police officer with the Dayton Police Department.

Molly Bruggeman - Dayton

The 32-year-old will be competing in rowing at the Paris Olympics.

She began rowing with the Dayton Boat Club in 2007 and is now an assistant rowing coach at the University of Minnesota.

In 2018, Bruggeman won gold in the women's four event at the World Championships.

Nina Castagna - Cincinnati

Castagna will also be competing in rowing for the Summer Games.

The Cincinnati native most recently won silver in the women's eight event at the 2023 World Championships.

Marcus Christopher - Canton

According to USA Cycling, the 21-year-old is set to compete in the BMX freestyle.

Annette Echikunwoke - Pickerington

The University of Cincinnati graduate is set to compete in track and field events.

The 27-year-old will be taking part in the women's hammer throw. The 2024 games were Echikunwoke's second time qualifying for the Olympics, but it will be her first time competing.

Jenna Fesemyer - Ravenna

Fesemyer is a Paralympian in track and field. She was born without a left leg and hip socket due to a rare congenital disease called proximal femoral focal deficiency.

According to Team USA, the 27-year-old got involved in wheelchair track in 2013 when the Ohio High School Athletic Association added wheelchair events to the state track meet.

Fesemyer also competed in the 2020 Tokyo Games.

Carson Foster - Cincinnati

The 22-year-old swimmer first made headlines when he broke the under-19 100-meter butterfly national record held by Michael Phelps.

He won five medals at the 2019 Junior World Championships, including four gold and one silver.

Foster will be competing in the 200 individual medley and the 400 individual medley.

Blake Haxton - Columbus

Haxton will be competing in his third Summer Olympics as a Paralympian after having competed in 2016 and 2020.

The 33-year-old is set to take part in rowing in Paris.

According to Team USA, Haxton contracted necrotizing fasciitis as a senior in high school and complications required surgeons to amputate his legs.

Max Holt - Cincinnati

The 6-foot-1037-year-old is gearing up for his third Olympics for volleyball.

In the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Holt won a bronze medal.

LeBron James - Akron

James is set to compete in his fourth and likely final Summer Olympics. He won bronze in Athens in 2004, gold in Beijing in 2008 and gold in London in 2012.

The 39-year-old is one of three American men to have played in at least three Olympics (Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Durant).

According to Team USA, in the U.S. Olympics men's career record book, James is first in assists, tied for second in games played and third in total points.

Rose Lavelle - Cincinnati

The 29-year-old is a member of the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team.

The Queen City native was a one-time bronze-medaling Olympian. Lavelle was also the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NSWL Draft by the Washington Spirit out of the University of Wisconsin.

McKenzie Long - Ironton

Long will be competing in track and field at the Summer Games. The 24-year-old sprinter is also appearing in her first Olympics.

Long is also a three-time NCAA champion who qualified for the Olympics after finishing third in the 200-meter at the 2024 Olympic Trials.

Morelle McCane - Cleveland

McCane will be entering the ring in Paris as the first women's boxer from Cleveland to qualify for an Olympic Games.

The 29-year-old qualified for the 2024 Olympics after winning a silver medal at the Pan American Games in 2023.

In 2022, McCane came in ninth at the World Championships. She began boxing at age 17 when she was a senior in high school.

Katie Moon - Olmsted Falls

Lastly, Moon is set to compete in Paris in track and field as a pole vaulter.

The 33-year-old Ashland University graduate also won gold at the 2020 Tokyo Games in pole vault.

Women's pole vault is set for qualifying on Monday, Aug. 5 at 4:40 a.m. ET / 10:40 a.m. Paris live on USA.

If Moon advances to the finals, she will compete at 1 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. Paris live on NBC.
