SANDUSKY COUNTY, Ohio — A Sandusky County kayak livery was awarded an Ohio Department of Natural Resources H2Ohio grant to help further develop cleanup events and efforts on the Sandusky River.

According to the Sandusky County Visitors Bureau, Ghoul Runnings Kayak Adventures in Fremont was awarded $10,000 to help them with supplies, advertising, tools, safety gear and more for river cleanups for this year and into 2025. The visitor's bureau said the group applied for the grant in the spring.

Ghoul Runnings recently worked with the Sandusky River Watershed Coalition on a Clean Sweep event in Fremont in June. The visitor's bureau said they partnered again for their first official H2Ohio River Clean Sweep on Sept. 2.

According to the visitor's bureau, more than 400 pounds of junk and trash were pulled from the river during the September sweep from Tindall Bridge to the old Ballville Dam area in Fremont, and then from Old Fort south towards Tiffin.
