PERRYSBURG, Ohio — Cleanup is underway at a Perrysburg creek which was recently discolored due to a pollutant, an Ohio Environmental Protection Agency spokesperson said Tuesday.
The city of Perrysburg contacted the Ohio EPA Monday after Grassy Creek along Eckel Junction Road appeared discolored, according to a statement from the agency. The spokesperson said authorities were able to track the discoloration to Whiteford Kenworth, a truck dealership also on Eckel Junction.

According to the Ohio EPA, the dealership had recently used a binding chemical in its gravel parking lot to control dust. The chemical then drained into the creek through a connecting storm sewer. The storm drain pipe was plugged in order to prevent additional chemicals from entering the waterways.
The agency said Whiteford Kenworth has since hired an environmental contractor to clean up the spill. This process includes cleaning out the storm sewer before more storms arrive.
