ADRIAN, MI (Toledo News Now) - A steady stream of voters visited the polling location at the Lenawee County Fairgrounds Tuesday. A $39 million bond proposal for the Adrian Public Schools piqued a lot of interest.
“I voted yes today,” said Adrian resident Ellie Mitchell.
That's what school administrators, teachers and students are hoping they hear a lot of. Voters are deciding whether or not to give the green light to the proposed bond.
Ellie and Sam Mitchell are in favor of the bond. They both graduated from Adrian High School in the 1940s.
“I have children, I have grandchildren and I have great grandchildren who went through Adrian Public Schools,” said Ellie Mitchell. “[We're] always very well satisfied with the school system.”
The money would be used for many upgrades in the district including technology, school security, athletic facility renovations and an addition to the middle school.
“I think it's a good thing for security and technology,” said resident Julie Rodocker.
The man behind the bond proposal, Superintendent Bob Behnke, is feeling very optimistic.
“Lots of good, positive energy,” he said. “I'm seeing posts on Facebook saying that they voted yes and the family members have voted yes, so we're feeling good.”
Polls at the Lenawee County Fairgrounds close at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Results are expected by around 8:30 p.m.
