CLEVELAND, OH (WTOL) - An electric car built by Bowling Green State University (BGSU) students in 1994 was donated to the Crawford Auto Aviation Museum in Cleveland Thursday.
Students at BGSU's Electric Vehicle Institute built the electric-powered race car, which went on to win the Lightning Electric Car Championship, and served to aid the development of many auto related projects at the university.
The now retired Electric Falcon is on display at the Crawford Museum in the WRHS University Circle Complex in Cleveland.
"The Electric Falcon is a marvelous addition to our Crawford collection; it enriches our ability to discuss the long history of alternative energy-driven automobiles in our region," said WRHS president and CEO Dr. Gainor Davis.
"We took this challenge in 1993 to get involved with convincing the public that electric vehicles were a potential solution to our environmental issues," said Assistant to the Dean of the BGSU College of Technology Barry Piersol. "The Crawford Auto Aviation Museum has a very strong collection of historic electric vehicles, and the Electric Falcon fits right in."
BGSU President Carol Cartwright says the car is a symbol of the school's commitment to serving society and dedication to helping the environment.
