Downtown Blissfield nominated for National Registry of Historic Places

Village officials are working hard to get Blissfield recognized for all its history.

BLISSFIELD, MI (Toledo News Now) - Village officials are working hard to get Blissfield recognized for all its history.

“We have a lot of people who love to come in and be in authentic places,” said Patricia Rayl, Blissfield's Main Street Manager.

She is talking about an historic district made up of at least 44 buildings, many of which were built in the 1800's. And right now a consultant is in the process of nominating buildings on Lane and Adrian Street to be listed on the National Registry of Historic Places.

“We're really fortunate that we have some very nice Victorian buildings, commercial buildings that were built in 1875,” said Rayl. “And we have another core section of town that was built in the 1890's and they're still here.”

One of the big benefits of being listed on the National Registry of Historic Places are tax breaks and federal funding. The Village of Blissfield will know if they've made the cut as early as December.
