TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz outlined his first six months in office on Monday.

Throughout his time in office, more than 50,000 potholes have been filled, the area has taken part in tense regional water discussions, cut $9 million from the budget and straightened out the city's finances.

But, the mayor said that there is still a lot of work to be done.

"We are no where near where we need to be, we still have some challenges ahead of us, but I think folks are primarily are looking for progress, and I don't think there is any question we've shown a lot of progress in these first seven months," said Kapszukiewicz.

Throughout the next 3 and a half years, Kapszukiewicz said that he wants to work with our neighborhoods, and our parks, making them better places to be.

The mayor talked a lot about universal pre-K during his campaign, and said that they are still working out the details.

They are also waiting to see who wins the Gubernatorial election in November and looking at the possibility of getting some help from Columbus.

"I think we are going to be in a position by early next year where we want to pull the trigger one way or another on a robust early childhood initiative, which I think is going to make a big difference for people in this community," said Kapszukiewicz.

As for regional water, he said that it's been a battle, but he likes where it is headed.

Toledo City Council is holding a public hearing on Thursday, and then plans to vote the regional water commission plan onto the ballot not long after that.

"By the end of this year, I think we are going to put our money where our mouth is, we are going to show that Toledo believe and cares so much about regional water that it is going to take the lead and do it, and where we go from there I think is going to be exciting for the region," Kapszukiewicz said.

These goals include universal pre-kindergarten, increasing the size of the police force and consolidation of city government functions.
