TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Plenty of kids got a chance to show off their athletic skills at Rogers High School on Friday.
It was the second annual Special Olympics and all TPS schools were invited. There were many volunteers lining up to help the athletes, including UT football players.
There was a full roster of events, from track and field to bike riding. They had an opening ceremony and parade, and there was also a relay event. All of the events were for both males and females.
“This gives them a chance to socialize, number one, and to feel successful with what they are able to do,” said Sue Hess, of Special Olympics Toledo.
"It's special to meet new people with the same disabilities as you, and actually, it's kind of fun,” said Teneia Henery, a participant.
Event organizers are hoping to make the event bigger and better next year.
