FREMONT, OH (WTOL) - The U.S. Marshals launched a search for two male inmates who escaped from the Sandusky County Jail in Fremont Monday.
Jordan Chapman and Mickey Hardy remain on the loose Tuesday as multiple agencies have searched for them for more than 24 hours.
Jordan Chapman is black with braided hair. He is 5'7'' and 140 lbs. Chapman was charged with receiving stolen property, tampering with evidence and a parole violation.
Mickey Hardy is white with a beard. He is 6'0'' and 240 lbs. Hardy was incarcerated on charges including aggravated menacing and burglary.
Both men were wearing orange pants and white shirts when they escaped. However, they left their pants in a cornfield they passed through.
Sheriff Hilton says they escaped out of an unsecured door near their rec area yesterday just after three in the afternoon.
"There was a reason they were in here," said Sandusky County Sheriff Chris Hilton. "They were serving some time, they were waiting for trails and sentencing. It is very significant that they be caught because, again, they have to serve their time just like everybody else."
Sheriff Hilton says the last escape out of the Sandusky County Jail was in 2016 before he took office and was a similar instance.
Officials now know Chapman and Hardy got out of an unsecured outside rec door. Cameras at the jail show the two men climbing the chain link fence and running into a nearby corn field.Meanwhile, neighbors nearby wondered how this daring escape could happen.
"What's wrong with the cops?" asked Melinda Royal, a Fremont resident. "What are you guys getting paid for if they are not keeping people in, if they are in there for a reason?"
Sheriff Hilton says they are conducting an internal investigation on the escape, but already have made changes to the structure and their operations.
Residents say they reacted fast to the news of the escape while others did not.
"My son, he was cutting the grass and I was going to help him," said Juanita Hernandez, a Fremont resident. "He said mom stay inside, lock the doors because there's two inmates that escaped the jail and I went inside and I locked the doors."
"If they escaped from jail they are not going to want to hang around the jail cause it's the first place they are going to look," said James Bayne, a Tiffin resident who works near the jail.
Along with the Marshals and the Sandusky County Sheriff's Office, Fremont Police, Border Patrol and the Ohio State Highway Patrol are assisting in the search. The sheriff's office is employing a drone and the OSHP brought in a plane to help with the search.
Authorities urge anyone who has seen one of both of the inmates to call 911 immediately. The inmates should be considered dangerous and should not be approached by anyone.
"I would consider these two to be dangerous, they escaped from jail," said Sandusky County Sheriff Chris Hilton. "There's a reason that they escaped. Just be on the lookout and do not hesitate to call if they think it's an emergency. 911 is always appropriate if you if they think they see these two."
Sheriff Hilton says their search is expanding beyond the county with the help of numerous tips.
"These people are known, they are local," said Sheriff Hilton. "They've been in the system before so they have contacts. They have people so those are the people that we go out and reach out to and talk to and say, 'Hey, have you spoken to Jordan or have you spoken to Mickey?' and that's generally how you find this kind of stuff."
The two men will face additional charges once they are caught.

A $1,000 reward has been offered for information leading to Hardy's and Chapman's arrest.
