PORT CLINTON, OH (Toledo News Now) - Ottawa County Sheriff Stephen Levorchick says his office has a suspect in custody in the investigation into a series of bomb threats across northwest Ohio.
The sheriff says his office found that the calls were made using a smart phone application called Spoof. After subpoenaing the provider, police say they tracked the calls to Charles L. Tingler on Friday.
Tingler was arrested and charged with inducing panic. The sheriff's office says he admitted he made the threat to Waite High School on Friday, as well as previous threats to Sandusky High School, Oak Harbor High School and Oak Harbor Middle School.
The sheriff's office says Tingler told them that a friend of his said he did not want to go to school on Monday. That's what deputies say led to the threat at Sandusky High School. The sheriff's office says Tingler said it then became like a game to him, and he started having fun.
It total, the sheriff says Tingler admitted to making 10 or 11 threatening calls.
"I'm confident that the school threats that were coming from this individual are going to end. My fear would be that you'll have a copy cat or that someone decides they want to try it also," said Ottawa County Drug Task Force Agent Don St. Clair.
The Sheriff says his office has been working on the case since Monday, April 21.
