Sylvania elementary school up for auction

Central Elementary School in Sylvania Township closed its doors at the beginning of 2013, after serving the Sylvania City Schools district for 84 years. Now the building is up for a public auction.

SYLVANIA TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) - Central Elementary School in Sylvania Township closed its doors at the beginning of 2013, after serving the Sylvania City Schools district for 84 years. Now the building is up for a public auction.

The students who attended Central Elementary School on Central and King roads now attend Central Trail Elementary. The old school and the 13 acres of land it sits on will be auctioned on July 18, from 12-4 p.m.

The district is required by law to hold the auction. Those who attend will be able to walk the grounds before placing a bid.

Superintendent Dr. Brad Rieger says the district has an amount in mind they are seeking, and if that isn't met, the bids can be declined and the building can be sold in a private sale.

"There's been interest in that property for a long time, even before we had a school site in place for the new Central Trail Elementary," Rieger said. "But it's going to be determined with what the market drives it to be."
