NORTH TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) – A Toledo couple thinks someone is out to kill them after a fire tore through their apartment building Monday morning. It happened around 8 on the 3300 block of Lagrange Street between Hudson Street and Pearl Street in north Toledo.
"I'm more scared than angry," said Lamar Richardson.
The Richardsons want to know who lit a fire in the apartment above their barber shop, Slick Ricks.
"We almost stayed in that apartment up there last night. We'd be dead," said Kwonda Richardson.
Toledo firefighters suspected it was not an accident.
This fire comes less than one week after the Richardsons fell victim to a home invasion on Arklow Drive that left Kwonda with deep rug burns from being dragged and Lamar with four gunshot wounds.
"They had a black mask and a hat that said police," said Lamar Richardson. He believed they were the police at first but then was kicked in the face.
"When I seen them kicking him in the face and everything, I just knew we were dead," said Kwonda Richardson.
According to the police report, there were roughly four men who kicked in the front and side doors and yelled, "Where's the money at? Where's the drugs at?" The suspects made off with the victim's keys, which contained one key to the building that burned.
Toledo Police said this case could be connected to several other recent home invasions.
The Richardsons said they just want the violence to stop.
"They can have everything. I just want to go back to a normal life," said Kwonda Richardson.
