WTOL won two Emmy awards on Sept. 12, 2009 from the Lower Great Lakes Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

WTOL is the only station in Ohio to win five regional Edward R. Murrow awards for outstanding journalism.
The awards we won are:
- Overall excellence
- Best morning newscast
- Best hard news coverage - Lake Erie plane crash
- Best investigative report - Clyde cancer cluster
- Best news series - Deadly encounter
COLUMBUS, OH - WTOL-TV was a big winner at Sunday's Ohio Associated Press broadcasters luncheon in Columbus.
News 11 took home more than 10 awards.
Some of the honors include best anchors Jerry Anderson and Chrys Peterson.
We won two first place awards for best coverage during last summer's flooding and for coverage of the death of Detective Keith Dressel and the Robert Jobe trial.
News 11's Jonathan Walsh took home several awards for best investigative reporting:
- Furnace Sting
- Cancer Cluster
- Cop Cars
Brad Harvey and photojournalist Paul Kwapich won best documentary or series for The Skyway -- Tragedy to Triumph.
Eric Rerucha won best photojournalist.
