1 person killed in New Year's Eve crash in Oak Harbor

Another person was taken to the hospital by air ambulance. Police believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

One person is dead and another hurt after a rollover crash on New Year's Eve in Oak Harbor.

The crash happened on W. Schiller Rd. just west of N. Benton Carroll Road in Benton Township around midnight.

Police say 29-year-old Michael Reichert of Port Clinton was driving a 2005 Ford F350 westbound on Schiller Rd. when the truck lost control, flipping over in a ditch and landing upside down in a field.

Reichert was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say he was not wearing a seat belt.

Reichert's passenger, 22-year-old Nicholas Heintz of Oak Harbor, suffered incapacitating injuries and was taken to St. Vincent's in Toledo by air ambulance.

Police say Heintz was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Police believe alcohol was a factor in the crash; the investigation in ongoing.
