TOLEDO, Ohio — A 29-year-old driver was hospitalized after striking a utility pole and getting trapped inside the car, according to police.

Officers arrived on the scene of Ducan Road and Jackman Road Friday night around 10 p.m. and deemed necessary to call a traffic accident reconstruction crew.

The crew determined the driver was south on Jackman Road toward Central Avenue. The driver approached another car from the rear that was turning onto Ducan Road, according to police.

Police say the driver had a brake failure and swerved to avoid hitting the other car, thus striking a utility pole.

The driver suffered serious injuries and ended up getting trapped inside the vehicle.

Toledo Fire and Rescue crews were able to free the driver and transport them to the hospital.

The driver's identity is being withheld until their family is notified.
