MAUMEE, Ohio — Editor's note: The attached video is from a story related to Conant Street construction projects that aired on June 27, 2022.
Maumee police announced the closure of railroad crossings on Conant Street and Kingsbury Road, beginning as early as Thursday, Aug. 25.
Transportation company Norfolk Southern Railway is expected to close the crossings at these locations for five to seven days. The reason for the closure is currently not known.
Conant Street and Kingsbury will not be closed; only the railroad crossings themselves will close. A detour for Conant is Dussel to Ford to Illinois and back to Conant Street on the north side of the tracks.
The closures compound other traffic issues present on Conant Street as a result of continued construction in Maumee. Conant hasn't been without these orange barrels in more than a year. In 2020, the road went from four lanes of traffic down to three to make way for more street parking.
While the construction is a part of Maumee's uptown revitalization efforts and a hope to increase local foot traffic, traffic jams are causing many motorists to take issue with lane closures and roadway slow-downs. Uptown businesses remain open during construction.
Per Maumee's city website, uptown construction has an expected completion date of late 2023/2024.
