TOLEDO, Ohio — EDITOR'S NOTE: The attached video originally aired on Feb. 11, 2021.
The Craig Memorial Bridge is closed to drivers until further notice after a piece of the structure malfunctioned Monday.
Representatives with the Ohio Department of Transportation said the particular piece affected is called a "contactor." It reportedly got overloaded on Monday, causing the malfunction.
The contactor in the bridge is the original from the 1950s, ODOT representatives said. It's a unique piece that is no longer made and can be hard to find.
As of Tuesday, the bridge was stuck partially open, and all entrances to the bridge were blocked off.
At this point, crews aren't able to estimate when the bridge may be functioning again, but are actively working on a solution.
ODOT crews are hoping to find another piece to replace it, but are exploring other options.
For now, drivers should find an alternate route.
