TOLEDO, Ohio — A 67-year-old Toledo man is dead after being hit by a semitrailer as he was walking on the shoulder of I-475.
Toledo police say 56-year-old Michael Bowman, also of Toledo, was driving a large dump truck west on I-475 near Secor Rd. when he unable to stop for stopped traffic ahead.
To avoid running into the traffic, Bowman pulled onto the shoulder where he struck 67-year-old Jeffery Freyer, who was walking from his disabled vehicle.
Mr. Freyer was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Mr. Bowman's semitrailer turned on its side and had to be towed.
Mr. Bowman was not injured in the crash.
