Gas prices: Cost at the pump keeps climbing in Toledo area

The average price of a gallon of gas in the Toledo area is back up to $3.00, according to a GasBuddy survey.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Gas prices in the Toledo area have increased nearly 26 cents over the last week, an analyst for GasBuddy says.

A gallon of gas costs, on average, $3.00 in Toledo as of Monday, according to a GasBuddy survey of 315 gas stations. Prices at the pump are about 17 cents higher than a month ago.

The GasBuddy survey found the cheapest station in Toledo was priced at $2.49/gallon, while the most expensive was $3.90/gallon. Statewide, the range was $2.39/gallon to $3.90/gallon from least expensive to most expensive.

Nationally, Toledo gas prices are similar to the rest of the country. In a survey of 150,000 gas stations across the U.S. the average price of a gallon of gas was $2.98, a figure that is down 7 cents from last month, according to GasBuddy.

"As we edge closer to the end of the year, we're seeing momentum for falling gas prices weaken, which is typical as the national average generally bottoms out between Thanksgiving and Christmas," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.

The national average price of diesel went down almost 2 cents to $3.47/gallon.

The average price of a gallon of gas in Toledo on Dec. 16 is more than 30 cents higher than it was in 2023:

  • December 16, 2023: $2.69/g (U.S. Average: $3.05/g)
  • December 16, 2022: $3.06/g (U.S. Average: $3.13/g)
  • December 16, 2021: $3.08/g (U.S. Average: $3.32/g)
  • December 16, 2020: $2.12/g (U.S. Average: $2.20/g)

"There may be a second window of lower prices in January or February in some areas, but even that won't last long. While several states saw gas prices cycle last week, marked by a big jump in prices after a large decline, those that did see hefty jumps should see prices drift a bit lower, potentially making a second run at the season's lowest prices," said De Haan.
