Average gasoline prices in Toledo drop below $3 a gallon

The average price per gallon in the city has fallen nearly 90 cents in the last six weeks.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Gasoline prices in Toledo are still falling and the average price per gallon is now under $3.

The average price in the city dropped another 13.9 cents a gallon last week to $2.86, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 315 stations. That cost is 68.5 cents less than a month ago and 16.5 cents less than a year ago.

Prices locally have dropped about 89 cents a gallon in the last six weeks. The cheapest station in Toledo was priced Sunday at $2.63, while the most expensive was $3.42.

The national average dropped 4.9 cents a gallon last week to $3.05. The national average for diesel fuel fell 8.6 cents to $4.68.

"While the national average declined for the seventh straight week, with oil prices rallying, it remains to be seen if we will manage another week of gasoline price declines," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. "We're still waiting for the national average to fall below $3 per gallon, something that is suddenly a bit less likely given the extreme cold weather, interrupting refining operations in the south, curbing gasoline production and potentially driving prices up slightly.

"While some of the nation's lowest priced gas stations will probably be forced to raise prices slightly, with some declines still happening in the West Coast, there remains a chance, albeit smaller one, that we could still see the national average fall below $3 per gallon. With the New Year on the doorstep, however, the biggest question motorists have remains what will happen in 2023 - a question GasBuddy's annual Fuel Outlook will answer later this week."
