TOLEDO, Ohio — Southbound I-75 over I-280 is now open two days ahead of schedule.
The project began on October 4, and was slated to last ten days. However, work was complete by Saturday, October 12.
The split at I-280 and I-75 was reconfigured back in 2017. Originally, drivers had to cut all the way across the highway to get to the exit at Stickney and LaGrange.
Engineers planned a weave interchange replacement to improve safety. However, the materials that were used on the new configuration didn't settle properly. This most recent closure was for crews to go back and smooth it out.
The department worked on an accelerated schedule and completely closed the road instead of cutting traffic down to one lane. The decision was made to make sure the paving was complete before it got too cold and winter weather kicked in, making the asphalt unable to set.
