LUCAS COUNTY, Ohio — Two people were injured after a crash in Jerusalem Township early Thursday morning involving a garbage truck and a pickup truck. The garbage truck tipped over as a result of the crash impact.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said that a 2004 Ford F-150 pick-up, driven by 20-year-old Miranda Heuberger of Toledo, was eastbound on State Route 2, when it traveled left of center and struck a 2017 Mack garbage truck driven by 48-year-old Thomas Sutton of Toledo.
Heuberger was extricated by mechanical means from her vehicle, and transported by Life Flight to Toledo St. Vincent Hospital with serious injuries. Sutton was transported to St. Charles Hospital by ground ambulance with injuries that were not life threatening.
The crash had closed Jerusalem Road between Cousino and Decant for approximately three hours. Safety belts were in use by both drivers and presently it is unknown if drug or alcohol impairment played a factor in the crash, the patrol said.
The garbage truck spilled hydraulic fluid when it tipped over, making a mess for crews to clean up.
The road closure impacted bus routes for Oregon schools.
