DUNDEE, Mich. — A 74-year-old man is dead following a crash on US-23 northbound at Brewer Rd. in Monroe County Monday morning.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, 74-year-old Stephen P. Fried of Toledo was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say a 41-year-old was driving a Chevrolet van northbound and rear-ended a Hyundai driven by Fried. Fried was slowing down due to construction work in the area.
As a result, Fried's Hyundai was pushed into another car, which was subsequently pushed into a third vehicle.
Authorities say it is still unclear whether excessive speed and/or intoxicating substances were a factor in the crash.
Dundee police, the Dundee Fire Department, the Summerfield Fire Department and the Monroe County Sheriff all responded to the scene.
