Toledo police release results of St. Patrick's Day traffic blitz

Officers were assigned in addition to already-scheduled officers working St. Patrick's Day weekend.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo police released the results of their St. Patrick's Day weekend traffic blitz, an enforcement period that resulted in nearly 70 citations issued. 

According to a press release from the Toledo Police Department, officers initiated 66 stops between March 15 and March 17 in relation to the city-wide blitz. Of the 66 stops, 69 total citations were issued. 

Officers issued 41 citations for speed, five for driving under suspension/no operators license and 11 citations for not using seatbelts.  Police working the enforcement special arrested two people for an OVI.

The special enforcement period was funded by the National highway Traffic Safety Administration, administered by the State of Ohio Department of Criminal Justice Services. Officers assigned to the blitz were paid on an overtime basis and were stationed in addition to regularly assigned officers, police said.
