Toledo police to conduct city-wide traffic blitz for distracted driving month

The blitz began on Wednesday, police said in a press release.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo police are conducting a city-wide traffic blitz beginning Wednesday, the department said in a press release.

According to police, the enforcement will focus on major roadways around the city, including areas with a higher number of reported traffic crashes and traffic complaints. The enforcement will be also focused on specifically combatting distracted driving and use of cellular devices while driving.

Part of this enforcement was funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration through a grant administered by the Ohio Department of Criminal Justice Services, the release said.

Police did not say how long the blitz would be conducted. The enforcement period marks one year since Ohio's distracted driving law took effect, and six months since the law became enforceable.
