WAUSEON, Ohio — If you drive through Wauseon to use Toll Plaza 34 on the Ohio Turnpike, be ready to use a detour.
Construction has begun and will continue through August 24, in order to reopen before the Fulton County Fair starts nearby. All entrance and exit ramps, both Eastbound and Westbound, will be closed for approximately four months.
Chuck Cyrill, director of marketing and communications for the Ohio Turnpike, explained where drivers can go while Plaza 34 is under construction.
"The nearest detours for Ohio Turnpike interchanges include Toll Plaza 25, which connects to State Route 66, and Toll Plaza 39, which connects to State Route 109."
Detour signs are in place for motorists to observe and follow as the work continues. Cyrill wants the public to know that crews are diligently working on Plaza 34 so that it will look new when it opens in August.
"The existing pavement at the toll plaza interchange will be removed and replaced with new asphalt, drainage, and guardrails. All eastbound and westbound entrance and exit ramps will be closed for about four months," said Cyrill.
A temporary westbound ramp for emergency access to Plaza 34 has been installed and construction is being completed so emergency services can respond to incidents that may occur.
Ohio Turnpike officials want people to know that they have met with Fulton County Engineering, ODOT, and local emergency services to assess the project's impact on the local area. Officials are confident that plans will run smoothly, and everything will return to normal once construction is complete.
