Heavy traffic in Sandusky near Cedar Point as park nears capacity

Cedar Point Road and Cedar Point Drive have reopened. Cedar Point says the park will remain open until midnight.

SANDUSKY, Ohio — Heavy traffic in Sandusky near Cedar Point led two roads to close as the amusement park neared capacity Saturday afternoon.

Cedar Point Road and Cedar Point Drive were temporarily shut down. The amusement park said in a Facebook post that guests who were on those roads were invited to continue to the park.

Later in the day, Cedar Point said roads had reopened and the park would remain open for HalloWeekends until midnight.

A spokesperson for the park said that HalloWeekends has always been a popular attraction, especially when there's good weather like it was forecasted this weekend.  The event happens every weekend of October and guests have only until Oct. 27 to enjoy it.

"Today, the park initiated a capacity-based closure in order to provide a quality experience to guests attending the event. Guests who are unable to visit are welcome to enjoy the park tomorrow, or next weekend for the final days of the season," the spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, on social media, guests were not only complaining about the traffic to get to the park but also the long lines to get in the attractions. Some who couldn't get to the park questioned Cedar Point on how they can get a refund for tickets they had already purchased.
