1 dead in motorcycle crash on US-24

The incident occurred around 1 p.m. Monday east of Berkey Southern Road, just before the Waterville/Grand Rapids exit.

WATERVILLE, Ohio — EDITOR'S NOTE: The attached video originally aired on Jan. 31, 2022.

A Toledo man is dead after he crashed his motorcycle on US-24 Monday afternoon.

The incident occurred around 1 p.m. east of Berkey Southern Road, just before the Waterville/Grand Rapids exit.

According to Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers on the scene, 57-year-old David DeJonghe, lost control of his bike and crashed as he was traveling west on US 24. His motorcycle ran off the left side of the roadway into the median. DeJonghe corrected and entered the westbound lanes. His bike then overturned and he was ejected from it. He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

No other vehicles were involved.

US-24 westbound was briefly closed as crews worked to clear the scene. However, both lanes have since reopened.
