The airline cited reduced business travel linked to COVID-19 through the Chicago hub as a reason to suspend flights, which are expected to resume in June.

SWANTON, Ohio — American Airlines is no longer flying to and from Chicago directly from Eugene F. Kranz Toledo Express Airport, a Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority spokesperson confirms.

Kayla Lewandowski, communications manager at Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority, explains the temporary suspension of those direct flights from Toledo to Chicago O'Hare International Airport are on hold.

"American Airlines has decided to temporarily suspend service to Chicago O’Hare International Airport from Eugene F. Kranz Toledo Express Airport due to COVID-19 severely impacting American’s operations, attributed to reduced business travel through the Chicago hub."

Lewandowski says the Port Authority expects to see the Chicago flights return to and from Toledo in June.

She notes the airline made the Port Authority aware of its decision to temporarily suspend flights between Toledo and Chicago back in January. The trips stopped in March.
