HOUSTON, Texas — Hurricane Beryl hit Texas recently, leaving many people without power or electricity.
Cliff McBean, a professor at Texas Southern University and native of Southwest Houston, has been living in Houston for the entirety of the hurricane.
He knows all too well about the difficulties still in existence after the storm hit Houston.
"Even though the generator kept the refrigerator on, it didn't run our HVAC system and it's boiling in Texas," said McBean. "The only thing that kept us cool, for lack of a better word, is we had rain two or three days, and so you know we're constantly concerned about wow is this another storm."
McBean does have a generator in his home, but it hasn't kept his house cool since the power went out.
He said the power has been out way longer than he thought it would be and his neighborhood is riddled with branches and other debris blocking the roads.
According to the national power outage website, more than 137,000 people were still without electricity as of Tuesday morning.
"Some improvement to the grid should have been made to ensure that citizens wouldn't be in those types of situations for long periods of time," said McBean. "For us to have to go through it, especially for those who didn't get power back until yesterday, it's just ridiculous."
McBean hopes the power will come back on soon but until then, he will do what he can to stay cool in the Houston heat.
