An ALERT DAY is issued for Wednesday.
The area will see a potential for summertime thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening hours. It is also expected to be another very hot and humid day as highs will reach near 90 degrees before thunderstorms arrive.
The WTOL 11 Weather Team is keeping a close eye on the radar and will continue to follow the storm patterns to keep you informed and prepared for the potential ALERT DAY.
Biggest threats
The biggest threat with any storm on Wednesday will be for strong, straight-line winds. It is expected that storms could develop quickly into a line, which often enhances the potential for these straight-line winds.
There will also be the potential for large hail because of how unstable the atmosphere could be with the hot and muggy weather. This instability allows thunderstorms to grow very tall, into the coldest parts of the lower atmosphere, allowing hail to develop and fall.
As always, the WTOL 11 Weather Team will be watching for any spinning sections of thunderstorms, but if storms quickly develop into a line, this threat for tornadoes would be slightly less probable.
The greater severe weather risk will arrive around or after 4 pm. Be weather aware and have multiple ways to receive weather warnings through the day tomorrow.
What time of day will be impacted?
The morning hours are expected to be warm, humid and dry. By the afternoon, a round of scattered showers or thunderstorms may be pushing from west to east across the area. While an isolated stronger storm can’t completely be ruled out, these are not expected to be severe.
A stronger wave of storms could develop closer to sunset if the atmosphere is able to recover from the clouds and showers earlier in the day. This is what we will be watching most closely.
