TOLEDO, Ohio — The WTOL 11 Weather Team has an ALERT DAY in effect for Sunday. Though Sunday will start out dry with some sunshine, that can set up an environment for stronger storms. Here are the 3 things you need to know about for Sunday's Alert Day.
1) Heat and humidity will fuel storms
Storms need moisture and energy, and the setup for Sunday will provide those ingredients.
Southerly winds will pump heat in to take highs into the 90s. We will also feel some uncomfortable humidity, which we have had a lot of so far this season.
The environment on Sunday can support thunderstorms and fuel them to become strong to severe.
2) Storms move in after 4 p.m.
The timing for the storms is still a part to monitor, so make sure you are weather-aware on Sunday.
As the heat and humidity build through the day, the storms will be expected around dinner time. Once the cold front passes, the severe threat will end before midnight Sunday night.
3) Strong winds will roll through the region
The line of thunderstorms will be broken as it moves through, but it will have a bow shape to the line. The bow signals strong and damaging winds are possible.
A hail threat also exists. The potential for tornadoes is on the low end.
As the WTOL 11 Weather Team continues to monitor the setup for Sunday, make sure to stay updated on air, online and on the WTOL 11 Weather app.
