TOLEDO, Ohio — A heat wave is set to hit northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan this week.
Our WTOL 11 Weather Team issued an Alert Day on Wednesday as dangerous temperatures move in.
Here are the top three things you should know.
TIMELINE
Dangerously hot and humid conditions will be possible from Tuesday evening through Thursday afternoon.
The highest risk will be in the afternoon and evening hours, just around peak heating.
Wednesday will bring full sun conditions, which will make it feel even hotter.
THREATS
Wednesday's "feels like" temperature is projected to top out at 105-110 degrees.
Along with the extreme heat and humidity, the potential for heat illness will increase, especially for those who work outdoors or who will be participating in outdoor activities.
Power outages are still a concern going into Wednesday. If you are without power, find the nearest cooling station. It is not safe to be in an insulated building without proper cooling.
Do not leave kids or pets unattended in cars, as car temperatures can rise up to 20 to 30 degrees hotter than the outside temperature in just a few minutes.
To reduce yourself as a heating source, wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothing while outdoors.
