TOLEDO, Ohio — Do you remember the historic cold in January 1994?
On this date, Jan. 19, 1994, the mercury plunged to -18 degrees, with wind chills that reached -60 to -65 degrees (old formula). For eight nights straight, temperatures plunged below zero for an impressive cold that went into the record books.
Data confirms this turned out to be the coldest week ever in Toledo's recorded history. The average temperature for the entire week was -1.4 degrees. The temperature was below zero for nearly 72 straight hours through Jan. 18 and 19. Here is the monthly archived data from January of 1994 to prove how extreme the cold was.
While this week in 1994 was the coldest week in Toledo's recorded history, the all-time coldest temperature recorded in Toledo is -20 degrees set on Jan. 21, 1984.
