Tuesday breaks record for warmest February day ever

The record-high heat comes ahead of potentially severe thunderstorms Tuesday night.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Tuesday's warm weather was one for the record books.

The high temperature of 73 recorded at 2 p.m. officially made the day the warmest February day in recorded history.

The previous high-temp record for a February day — 71 degrees — was recorded in 1999, 2000 and 2007.

The previous high-temp record for Feb. 27 was 66 degrees, set in 1996.

If you think it has felt more like mid-spring than the end of winter, you're right.

This has been the warmest February on record for the Toledo area and Tuesday's high temperatures also makes it the warmest winter day on record.

Tuesday's unseasonable blast of warm weather precedes what is likely to be an evening of potentially strong thunderstorms.

WTOL 11's weather team predicts storms will start to develop after sunset from the west and roll in Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
