UAW President Shawn Fain to speak to laid off Local 12 workers

Fain's upcoming appearance comes as more than a thousand automotive job layoffs were announced in Toledo in recent weeks.

TOLEDO, Ohio — United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain is expected to speak Tuesday at a local union hall regarding recent layoffs

Representatives at UAW Local 12 in Toledo told WTOL 11 Fain is expected to speak to the workers impacted by the layoffs. Fain is expected to speak between 2 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., the representatives said. 

Fain's upcoming appearance comes as more than a thousand automotive job layoffs were announced in recent weeks. This includes 1,100 at the Toledo Assembly Complex, 210 from Mobis North America, and 160 from KUKA. All of the layoffs are permanent or indefinite, according to layoff documentation. 

In total, this comprises 1,470 workers.
