TOLEDO, Ohio — Just over a year after DeAsia Green was killed in a north Toledo shooting, a teen was sentenced for her murder.
According to court documents, 16-year-old Joshua Coleman entered a guilty plea on a murder charge Friday morning. A judge sentenced him to 15 years to life in prison, and he will be eligible for parole after 15 years. Coleman was initially scheduled to appear in court for a trial in late January.
Green, 15, was found dead in an alley in the 1300 block of Page Street on Jan. 9, 2023, less than a week after her family had reported her missing. On Jan. 17, 2023, Coleman, who was also 15 at the time, was charged with murder and felonious assault in Green's killing.
Green was a freshman at Start High School and a member of Young Men and Women For Change, program coordinator Shawn Mahone told WTOL 11. She is pictured below:
When DeAsia was 3 years old, her father DeAndre Green was shot and killed while getting into his car in north Toledo on Phillips Avenue.
