TOLEDO, Ohio — Three people who were indicted on murder charges last week in a homicide stemming from a 2010 assault in east Toledo have since been arrested.
According to Lucas County Jail records, Ruben Lopez Sr., Ruben A. Lopez (Jr.) and Michael Lopez were taken into custody Wednesday and are charged each with murder while committing a violent felony offense.
They are charged in the death of Dewayne Arnold, who was seriously injured in November 2010 when the three suspects allegedly assaulted him in east Toledo.
A court document from the initial incident indicated that, following the assault, Arnold was resuscitated and taken to the hospital, where he was resuscitated again. Arnold was 41 years old at the time of the initial incident.
The suspects were initially charged with felonious assault in this case, but the charges were dismissed, police said.
Arnold suffered what police described as "critical injuries" and died on July 29, 2023, after which the Lucas County Coroner's Office ruled his death a homicide due to those injuries he sustained.
Police reopened the case on Oct. 2, after which all three were indicted on the murder charges.
All three suspects are scheduled for arraignment on Oct. 23.
