TOLEDO, Ohio — A 17-year-old was sentenced Monday on a charge in the 2023 shooting death of Toledo teen Jaden Skaggs.
Dimar Smith, who was 16 at the time of the shooting, pleaded guilty in Lucas County Common Pleas Court Monday to one count of involuntary manslaughter. A judge then sentenced Smith to 11 to 17 years in prison. He was tried as an adult in the incident.

Smith was arrested a little more than a week later, then indicted in September 2023 on two counts of of murder and one count of felonious assault for the April 2023 shooting that killed Skaggs, who was 15 at the time of his death.
Police found Skaggs suffering from at least one gunshot wound on the afternoon of April 10, 2023 in the Ravine Park Village Community Center. He later died at the hospital from his injuries.
